When I go to change the height maximum from 30 to anything higher the rendering messes up in a big way.  Where are you getting the math for the divide by 8, 6, etc?  Can you explain more around how I can go about changing the height and banding (levels the textures change at) more?

I'm fairly new to these tutorials, but I can tell you that you shouldn't change the maximum height variable from 0. As the code loops through the image setting heights, the actual maximum is set depending on the highest point it finds on the .bmp.

If you want to make the actual highest point on the map less than it currently sets, change this line:

heightData[x, y] = (heightData[x, y] - minimumHeight) / (maximumHeight - minimumHeight) * 30;

to something like this:

heightData[x, y] = (heightData[x, y] - minimumHeight) / (maximumHeight - minimumHeight) * 10;

The numeric value at the end, '10', sets the height. The lower it is, the smaller the difference between your lowest and highest points will be.
